Today we’re going to “shed some light” on how to buy decorative lamps that compliment your décor style. While you may stumble upon a fabulous lamp or a great bargain if it sticks out like a sore thumb in the room it wasn’t such a great buy after all. Here are some examples of lamps that work well with various decorating styles.

Traditional/Victorian Décor

This style can be one of the hardest to find lamps for. You want something that looks authentic enough to fit in with your décor but is still functional.

This Dale Tiffany lamp is part of their Antiques Roadshow collection and is a beautiful example of how you can get that Victorian or traditional feel within a gorgeous yet functional lamp. The stained glass effect fits in well with the period style as do the lines and detailing of the wrought iron. This would work well as a reading lamp in a den or living room or as decorative lamp on your nightstand in a Victorian themed bedroom.

Other great examples of Victorian and traditional themed lamps are:

The Inverness Lamp

The Minka Romance Lamp

Contemporary/Minimalist Décor

Contemporary and minimalist decors are often very monochromatic with sleek, simple lines. In a room with this type of décor you want to choose your lamps very carefully as there usually isn’t a lot of clutter to detract from the wrong decorative lamp choice.

The Mercury cone lamp by George Kovacs is a brilliant piece to display in a minimally decorated room. It goes well with just about any color scheme and the lines are perfect for that modern look and feel. What really stands out about this lamp is the chrome base. It makes an impact while still keeping to the traditions of minimalist décor. This would work beautifully in a family room or bedroom where you want to keep to a simple color theme.

Other lamps recommended for this décor are:

The Matte Black Lamp

The Bridge Floor Lamp

Modern Décor

Choosing decorative lamps for a modern décor is probably the easiest of the bunch as there is such a wide array to choose from. We had a hard time narrowing it down to just three selections but hopefully you will get a good idea from these examples and then choose based on your style preferences within this décor style.

The Eva metal lamp from Uttermost is a great example of a table lamp that fits well with most of today’s modern decors. The beige suede lamp shade will compliment just about any color scheme and would look fabulous against a deeply colored accent wall. Use this type of decorative lamp in a family room or on a buffet table as a decorative piece that also lights up a room.

Floor lamps that would fit well in a modern décor are:

The Lumalight Floor Lamp

The Wright Tall Floor Lamp

Country Décor

A home decorated with a country theme demands a certain style of lamp to compliment it. The design should reflect elements of nature or have a rustic look to them that fits in so well with this decorating scheme.

The Twigs table lamp by Kenroy Home fits the bill perfectly on all counts. The decorative “twigs” embracing the lampshade gives a natural look and feel to this lamp and the aged metal base gives off that rustic “old time” vibe. This table lamp will emit a soft glow, perfect for rooms decorated in warm tones. Use it as a bedside lamp or indirect lighting for a sitting room, family room or as a decorative piece atop a stand in a hallway.

Other lamps perfect for a country décor are:

The Tiffany Maple Leaf Lamp

The Aged Wood Lamp

Matching your decorative lamps to a room’s décor does take a little planning but the results are well worth it. With all the beautiful lamp styles to choose from these days you can easily light up a room while adding a decorative accent at the same time.
